Health Benefits of Himalayan Salt Lamps

Using a Himalayan salt lamp in your home is becoming more and more popular. They offer a great number of health benefits and are a fantastic air purifying system. You can buy them in a variety of styles and sizes with their colours ranging from translucent white to shades of orange, pink and deep red.

Where is Himalayan Sea Salt Formed?

In the foothills of the mountainous region of Northern Pakistan lies ancient sea beds where pure Himalayan salt has formed. The sea water has long since evaporated but the salt crystals left behind are rich in over 80 different minerals including copper, magnesium, iron and calcium – it’s easy to see why there are so many benefits in using it! Himalayan sea salt is believed to be the purest form of salt available and is still extracted from mines by hand.

Why Should I Use a Salt Lamp?

One of the problems of modern living is the number of ‘positive ions’ that surround us daily. They emit from electronic devices such as computer screens, TV sets, microwaves, vacuum cleaners and electric heaters – we all have at least one of these devices, if not all of them. Positive ions are also known as ‘electric smog’ and being surrounded by them constantly can lead to numerous health problems including stress related disorders, headaches, insomnia, allergies and even various skin conditions. Positive ions cause our brains to be overrun with frequencies that are 20 times higher than the optimum frequency it operates at.

Nature has its very own remedy for ‘electric smog’ – the production of ‘negative ions’. Waterfalls, sunlight and the sea are great sources of negative ions – have you ever wondered why you feel your energy restored after a day at the beach? Negative ions attract harmful positive particles and neutralise them. They also stimulate the flow of oxygen to the brain, which in turn increases the body’s energy levels.

Himalayan salt lamps are great sources of negative ions which makes them an ideal addition to your home.

How Do I Use a Salt Lamp?

It’s recommended to place your salt lamp in a room where you spend lots of time, or a room where there are a lot of electronic devices. You can use just one lamp or multiple in the same room.

Himalayan salt lamps will:

  • Ionise the air
  • Balance harmful frequencies from electronic devices
  • Produce light waves of the rainbow spectrum

It’s important to air your rooms regularly to clear out positive ions, however, in the winter months when it’s cold, or the summer months when air pollution is high and it’s not always convenient to open your windows, salt lamps are extremely useful. Not only do they work to combat health problems caused by electronics, but their warm glow produces a soothing and calming light (salt lamps are often used in colour therapy). If you suffer from insomnia, try placing a salt lamp by your bedside.
