We are largely a nation of tea-drinkers, and most of the tea we drink is made from the camellia sinensis tea bush. If you are bold you may have tried Earl Grey (tea with bergamot added) or Jasmine (China tea with jasmine flowers added), or you may have ventured into the world of fruit teas.
Herbal teas provide a beneficial alternative to the more familiar brown tea. Strictly speaking, herbal teas are not teas at all but infusions or tisanes, and they can be made from a wide variety of flowers, leaves, twigs, seeds, bark, roots, etc.
Here at Clouds we sell a range of herbal teas carefully blended by Star Child of Glastonbury. Most of their ingredients are left whole to preserve freshness and quality. These should be ground or crushed before use as smaller pieces will infuse more easily, and the ingredients should be well mixed to ensure a well-balanced taste and effect.
For a standard infusion:
- Use one teaspoon of dried, ground herbs
- Add a cup of boiling water
- Cover and steep for about 5 minutes
- Strain and sweeten with honey if required
Be sure to treat all herbs with respect, especially during pregnancy or if certain medical conditions are present. It is important to seek medical advice, especially if you are taking any prescription drugs, as certain herbs may counteract their effect.
