The Legend of the Apache Tears
The name "Apache tears" comes from the story of a battle in the 1870s where a group of Native American Apache warriors, facing defeat by the U.S. Cavalry, chose to ride their horses off a cliff to their deaths rather than surrender. When the wives and families of the fallen warriors heard of this tragedy, their tears of grief are said to have turned into these black stones upon hitting the ground.
