Jasmine oil starts life as a concrete, made by solvent extraction, then separation with alcohol produces an absolute, from which the oil is then extracted by steam distillation. The pure oil  is extremely expensive, so it is more often bought diluted in carrier oil.

NB – it takes approximately 1000lbs of jasmine flowers to create 1lb of liquid concrete

 Properties:

Scent is rich, floral, exotic and sweet

 Uses:

  • Can be useful in easing childbirth
  • Is of benefit with sexual problems
  • Soothes coughs and sore throats
  • In a massage it improves elasticity of the skin, and helps to smooth out stretch marks

 Other applications:

  • Deeply relaxing, lifts the spirits, clears depression and boosts confidence

 Warnings:

  • It is non-toxic and does not irritate the skin
  • It is deeply relaxing and can cause lack of concentration
  • Not generally for use when pregnant
  • Not for babies, infants or children under 12
