Fragrance oils, along with simmering granules and incense, have long been a favourite device in our homes for freshening and fragrancing. Fragrance oils themselves are not the same as the essential oils used in aromatherapy. They are created as a blend of synthetic fragrance compounds with artificial substances or with carrier oil, and they do not have the unique therapeutic benefits that essential oils have.
However, what they do have is the ability to dispel unwanted smells and to create a pleasant ambience in your home. They are currently added to all manner of home fragrancing products – soaps, air fresheners, etc. – or are simply bought bottled in a variety of scents for use with oil burners.
During the 1960s the use of fragrance oils began to increase even more, amplifying our awareness of how scent affects the emotions, leading to a growth of dedicated fragrance shops and an increase in the purchase of scents to be used around the home. Oils are produced for addition to candles to create an ambient living environment, to car air fresheners, plug-ins, aerosols, gel based fresheners and even insecticides, as well as laundry and household cleaning products. In its simplest form fragrant oil is used in oil burners and lamps, or in a more concentrated form it sits happily in a diffuser, secreting its particular properties into the atmosphere.
All our fragrance oils are suitable for use in oil burners (simply add a few drops to water in the top of your burner and light a tealight underneath)
They are also excellent for refreshing tired pot pourri.
NB:
Not to be used on the skin.
