An internationally known and collected artisit, Des Brophy's art work has recently become popular worldwide.
Having lived by the sea for most of his younger life, Des' early inspiration came from the sea and coastal areas that he was familiar with. At the age of 22 while a young RAF serviceman he spent some time in an RAF hospital. During this time Des learned the basics of watercolour technique, and continued to nurture his desire to paint after leaving hospital. There followed paintings of local landscapes of bleak Derbyshire moorland scenes with dramatic and wild skies. To this day Des still enjoys the beauty of the Derbyshire moorland and villages.
The movement towards humorous images seemed to come naturally to Des, through his keen interest in, and observations of human behaviour, and after a working life in the R.A.F. and the Police Service, Des Brophy now spends his time painting nostalgic scenes of life in the North of England and demonstrating his art on cruise liners around the world.
